Semester Scholarship Institute - Call for Applications

The Semester Scholarship Institute is designed to advance the mission of research and scholarship within the College of Nursing through promotion of development of programs of research that will become self-sufficient through external funding and development of scholarship in the form of training grants, and secondarily through publication of research and scholarly work.  The Semester Scholarship Institute is not meant to provide funds to pay for workload that is already supported by state or grant funding.

Goal:

Each scholar, individually or as a part of a team, is to complete and submit a manuscript for publication to a professional, peer-reviewed journal.

Eligibility:

Salaried faculty (tenure-track, clinical, research, and academic staff; full or part-time) may apply, with these exceptions:

  • Faculty with allocated workload for research or scholarship for the proposed activity.
  • Projects related to enrollment as a student.
  • Paid adjunct faculty

Priority will be given to partnerships of two CON faculty and those participating in writing groups. Once selected, faculty will need to attend a half-day orientation and mid-semester check-in.  If you have participated before, you may only need to attend part of the orientation.

We anticipate applications from individuals with a wide range of experience in publishing. All applications are encouraged.

Timeframe:

    Summer Semester

  • May: Orientation and Planning Session and Mini-Lectures (½ day to be arranged once participants are selected)
  • May-August: Writing individually or together as partners, with a mid-summer progress and support session.

    Fall Semester

  • September: Orientation and Planning Session and Mini-Lectures (½ day to be arranged once participants are selected)
  • September-December: Writing individually or together as partners, with a mid-semester progress and support session.

    Spring Semester

  • January: Orientation and Planning Session and Mini-Lectures (½ day to be arranged once participants are selected)
  • January-April: Writing individually or together as partners, with a mid-semester progress and support session.

Incentive:

$1000 scholarship to each faculty scholar, with a maximum of $2000 per project distributed equally among writing team members, will be awarded at the time manuscript is submitted.  The scholarship will be placed in a development account.  Awards are limited to one per individual per year, although you may choose to participate in more than one team.  Partnerships are encouraged; if you have never published you are encouraged to recruit a partner with publishing experience who can serve as a mentor.
