Post Baccalaureate Certificate

Nursing Informatics

Program Description

The interdisciplinary Informatics certificate program offers specialty education in informatics for students who do not wish to obtain an MS or PhD. This program educates students in core health informatics issues, as well as more specialized sub-domains such as nursing informatics, bioinformatics, public health informatics, and clinical information systems. The program of study is individualized, allowing students to develop knowledge in specialized areas of interest. This is the ideal educational program for the working student, the student who already holds a graduate degree, or a student simultaneously enrolled in a degree-granting University of Utah program.

Length of Program

Fifteen (15) credit hours are required to complete the Interdisciplinary Informatics Post Baccalaureate Certificate.  It can be completed in as little as two semesters.

Program of Study

The certificate requires completion of core course NURS 6810 Fundamentals of Healthcare Informatics.  Students then work with their faculty advisor to customize a program of study based on the student’s academic and career interests.  At least 12 of the 15 credit hours must come from the Nursing Informatics, Biomedical Informatics, Business or Psychology departments.

Studying at a Distance

Not all courses in the Interdisciplinary Informatics Certificate program are available online or via distance, but, with careful course selection, the certificate can be completed at a distance.  Choosing the distance option may extend the amount of time required to complete the program.
