GOALS
Innovation - Maintain our leadership position as innovators in teaching, research and practice.
Education
- Enhance and redesign “U signature” student experiences at the undergraduate and graduate level (i.e. service learning, international, interprofessional, research).
- Implement new concept-based curriculum in the undergraduate nursing program.
- Develop a cost effective, innovative model for distance learning with strong, service- oriented support mechanisms.
Research
- Develop affinity groups in informatics, simulation and education to support innovative research in these areas.
- Enrich the research culture with innovation, creativity and passion for inquiry.
Practice
- Each faculty practice will have evidence-based care guidelines available on site in an electronic format.
- Explore placement clustering to enable clinical students to be taught in faculty practice sites
Excellence - Continue to strive for excellence in all our missions and programs.
Education
- Sustain leadership in educational programs in aging in Utah and become the leader in the western United States.
- Build a national reputation for excellence in simulation-based education and research.
Research
- Maximize the utilization of new resources, systems and spaces within the newly renovated building to enhance student learning and research.
Practice
- Provide comprehensive, evidence-based, quality patient care within CON faculty practice sites.
- Provide an integrated, high quality student experience within the faculty practice sites.
Collaboration - Engage in collaborative partnerships in the education, research and practice arenas.
Education
- Engage community and clinical partners in maximizing student learning and assessing educational outcomes locally and globally.
- Design appropriate articulation (early assurance) undergraduate and graduate agreements between high school students and BS students.
Research
- Promote formation and participation in affinity groups with multidisciplinary and clinical faculty membership targeting end-of-life, biobehavioral/genetics, simulation, informatics and other priority topics.
- Develop learning experiences and models to promote concepts and skills in team science, community-based participatory research, and problem-focused research.
Practice
- Develop a model for collaboration and referral between faculty practices.
- Form stronger linkages between research and practice as evidenced by practice faculty in affinity groups.
Integrity/Equity & Diversity - Ensure a culture of accountability, integrity and responsiveness.
Education
- Increase enrollment and diversity in gerontology program and geriatric courses to meet the needs of an aging population.
- Increase enrollment and diversity in primary care specialty tracks to meet the need for primary care providers.
- Enhance options for students to collaborate with faculty in assessment, care, and research with diverse individuals, groups, communities, and multidisciplinary teams.
Research
- Recruit and hire ethnically diverse tenure track faculty with research interests synergistic with potential and existing faculty research interests.
Practice
- Continue to serve diverse populations to provide an enhanced student experience.
- Engage in a strategic growth plan for diversification of opportunities, targeted program depth and alignment to curriculum.
Mentoring - Create mentoring programs for students and faculty that maximize talent,
Education
- Develop and implement models to support timely progression of potential young scientists into PhD education.
- Enhance academic advising and student services to provide improved support to students and faculty.
- Evaluate mentored study opportunities for faculty enrolled in DNP and PhD programs.
Research
- Develop mentoring networks and grant infrastructure to support junior faculty in obtaining external research funding.
- Enhance mentorship and support of early stage investigators.
- Assess leadership interests and development opportunities to provide structured succession planning for key leadership positions.
Practice
- Invest in faculty development by providing growth opportunities to existing faculty including time and support for the acquisition of new skills.
- Develop a mentoring program for practicing faculty.
Technology - Advance to a higher level of teaching, research and practice using the latest technologies.
Education
- Create interactive, electronic student tracking system from initial program inquiry to post graduation.
- Develop a database to track and coordinate clinical placement sites and preceptors for undergraduate and graduate programs.
- Improve data collection required to meet national/specialty accreditation and University of Utah and CON outcomes.
Research
- Enhance pre-submission grant application support to allow faculty to focus on science and creativity.
- Create templates, support utilization of technology, university resources, and ongoing process improvement strategies.
Practice
- Collect and analyze data to determine the quality of care in at least one practice site per year.
- At least one faculty practice group will transition to documentation via an electronic health record.
